School’s day of fun is a real sizzler

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - 24 Hours -

FAMILY fun was the order of the day at a city primary school as parents and youngsters flocked to enjoy a day out in the sunshine.

Woodston Primary School nursery played host to their first ever summer fete which was organised to raise much needed cash to buy equipment for the new building extension in the nursery area. The nursery, a registered charity, is increasing its intake of children from September and needs the money to put towards things like new computers, sleep mats, paints and pens.

The fete was generously supported by a host of local businesses who provided top notch prizes for the raffle which, together with the 50p entrance fee, raised £225. Happy Cakes in Peterborough donated cakes for the cake stall, which alone raised £43.67.

Despite modest expectations, nursery manager and event organiser Becky Dix was overwhelmed by the total – £622.77 – raised on Saturday.

She said: “I was amazed. The weather was fantastic, the whole community came together and parents were all so supportive.”

She now plans to turn this summer’s success into an annual event.
