Help and funds needed for club
WHITTLESEY’S Manor Dolphins children’s swimming club is seeking new volunteers and extra funds.
And who better to ensure it stays well afloat than Norwich and Peterborough building society adviser Georgie Sansby, who spends her spare time helping to run the swimming club.
Georgie, who is a customer adviser at N&P Whittlesey, in Market Place, has been helping to run the club with her family for more than 10 years at Manor Leisure Centre, in Station Road.
The club has run for more than 30 years and has always been staffed solely by volunteers. It teaches youngster swimming and water safety skills and encourages them to make friends and live healthy lifestyles.
Every year it hosts a gala where swimmers compete in 25m, 50m or 100m races. It has 70 members, aged seven to 20, who attend classes on Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Georgie said: “I really love being involved with the Manor Dolphins.
“It may seem very different to my day job, but I just love helping so many people to learn to swim, as it means that I am playing a part in teaching them a potentially life-sav- ing skill. It’s such a lot of fun, too, and so rewarding.”
She added that the club needs to constantly fundraise to ensure its survival.
She said: “As it is run solely by volunteers, in order to keep the club running, regular funds need to be raised.”
The club’s fundraising efforts have included a sponsored widths swim on May 5 and lengths sponsored swim on May 12.
The club is always looking for volunteers and swimming teachers to help out.
Anyone wishing to find out more about the classes or to offer support should contact Kevin or Georgie Sansby on 01733 205182.
