Barnardo’s was founded by Thomas John Barnardo in 1866, to care for vul­ner­a­ble chil­dren and young peo­ple.

To­day Barnardo’s pro­vides a range of lo­cal sup­port, coun­selling, fos­ter­ing, adop­tion and train­ing ser­vices for more than 100,000 chil­dren, young peo­ple and their fam­i­lies.

As of 2010, it spends more than £190 mil­lion a year on over 400 lo­cal ser­vices aimed at help­ing these groups.
