THE vil­lage of Glin­ton is sep­a­rated from Peter­bor­ough by the A15 to the north of Wer­ring­ton.

To­day’s pic­ture show the lay­out of the vil­lage dur­ing the last cen­tury. How does it com­pare to to­day?

The spire of St Bene­dict’s church, which you can see in the back­ground, is widely con­sid­ered to be one of the finest nee­dle spires in Eng­land.

In fact it is the sub­ject of one of John Clare’s po­ems Glin­ton Spire. Clare, although born in the nearby vil­lage of Help­ston, went to school in the church.
