Santa’s helpers deliver Posh gifts
CHRISTMAS came early for youngsters at Peterborough City Hospital when Posh footballers arrived bearing gifts.
A number of Peterborough United players paid a visit to the hospital’s children’s ward yesterday to hand over more than £500 worth of presents donated by ASDA and Debenhams to excited youngsters.
Many children were thrilled as stars including George Boyd, Lee Tomlin, Paul Jones and Gabriel Zakuani handed over gifts.
Some of the players donned Santa hats and fake beards and also took the time to chat to youngsters, parents and staff.
Delighted eight-year-old Lemar Moore, from Peterborough, was given a gift from Posh winger George Boyd.
Lemar said: “It was really great to meet George. I like Posh and he’s one of my favourite players.
“He said hello, shook my hand and wished me a happy Christmas and was very nice.
“We then had a photo together. I can’t wait to tell my friends that I met a famous footballer.
“George gave me a big present but I’m going to try not to open it until Christmas Day. Although that may be difficult.”
Eight-year-old Fabio Ferreira, also from Peterborough, was overjoyed to be given a remote control car.
He said: “I was given a big present and I couldn’t wait to unwrap it.
“It was a remote control Audi car and I’m so happy. It’s really nice that the players have given me this.
“Meeting them was a big surprise. I didn’t know they were coming.
“I was nervous at first but they were all friendly and wanted to talk to me.”
Two-year-old Samuel Llewellyn also couldn’t wait to unwrap his present - which was a model helicopter.
His mum Diane Llewellyn (39) said: “He’s so excited - he just wants to take it home now.
“I would like to thank the Peterborough players for taking the time out to come and so this.
“One of the players gave Samuel a high-five which made his day.”
Posh player George Boyd said: “We visit the hospital every year and it’s always good to give something back to the kids.
“They’re in hospital at the moment and giving them presents always helps to cheer them up.”
Zoe Wilkinson, play service co-ordinator at Peterborough City Hospital, said: “The children, their parents and staff on the ward were equally as excited at the thought of meeting some of the Posh squad.
“We are thrilled that they continue to support us and we all look forward to seeing them.
“We really appreciate the fact that they bring presents for the children, too.
“It certainly helps to cheer up those children who sadly have to be in hospital at this time of year.”
