I REALISE that this is the age of cutbacks, but Santa’s grotto? I think the so-called grotto, which is just outside John Lewis in Queensgate is an extremely poor item to show to children. This ‘grotto’ is about half the size of my garden shed.

I realise that this is the age of cutbacks, but Santa Claus’s grotto? I think the so-called grotto, which is just outside John Lewis in Queensgate, is an extremely poor item to show to children.

This ‘grotto’ is about half the size of my garden shed and, I suspect, many others.

We have many tourists and visitors at this time of year and if they have children they are going to be very disappointed at the Peterborough idea of Santa Claus.

When I was a child many moons ago, there was a huge grotto at the local Co-op store. This grotto entailed a sleigh ride, elves and reindeer and was a magical memory to experience.

There is nothing magical and I think precious little memory for the little ones who go to the Queensgate ‘grotto.’ DAVID REID Norburn Bretton
