Wo­man is jailed for as­sault

A WO­MAN who as­saulted four po­lice of­fi­cers and three youths dur­ing an in­ci­dent at a shop­ping cen­tre has been jailed for six months.

Moyra Capon (35) car­ried out the as­saults at the Or­ton­gate shop­ping cen­tre, in Or­ton Gold­hay, Peter­bor­ough on Novem­ber 21.

Capon, of Pen­ning­ton, Or­ton Gold­hay, ap­peared at Peter­bor­ough Mag­is­trates’ Court and pleaded guilty to as­sault­ing three po­lice of­fi­cers, a PCSO and three youths.

She also ad­mit­ted de­stroy­ing a pair of glasses which be­longed to one of the youths she as­saulted.

A spokesman for Cam­bridgeshire Po­lice said: “A PCSO in the area came across an in­ci­dent of a wo­man in an al­ter­ca­tion with three youths who were be­ing shoved and pushed around.

“The of­fender was hand­cuffed at the scene but spat at the ar­rest­ing of­fi­cer. Three po­lice of­fi­cers ar­rived in a van to take her away.

“How­ever, one of these of­fi­cers was spat at and an­other was scratched.

“While in the van the of­fender then kicked an­other of­fi­cer.”

The spokesman added: “Our of­fi­cers should be al­lowed to carry out their duty safely and this sen­tence should serve as a de­ter­rent to peo­ple who feel it’s ac­cept­able to as­sault po­lice.”
