Burst water main leaves road in need of resurfacing

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Uk&world Update -

MOTORISTS in Wisbech are facing days of disruption after water from a burst main undermined the road surface.

Anglian Water has been forced to partially close Walton Road, between Waterlees Road and Ollard Avenue, following the leak to the threeinch, cast-iron main in the verge on Thursday afternoon.

While the company managed to repair the leak without disrupting supply to any customers by Thursday evening, it is now having to replace the road surface after the water eroded the ground beneath it.

The road was partially closed yesterday while work took place and will remain closed today and tomorrow as the equipment needed to complete the repairs is not available at the weekend.

The firm will continue the resurfacing on Monday and hopes to have the road reopened by the end of the day or Tuesday morning.

A spokesman for the firm apolo- gised for the disruption,

He said: “We are very sorry for the disruption this may cause people.

“It’s not something we take lightly, closing the road. It’s always an inconvenience for people, but we have to do it for health and safety reasons. The last thing we want is anyone to get hurt for any reason.”
