Brave RAF bomb ex­pert up for award

SOME of the most fa­mous faces in the world will ap­plaud a bomb dis­posal ex­pert from RAF Wit­ter­ing at a glit­ter­ing awards cer­e­mony to­day.

Chief Technician David Lowe, an Im­pro­vised Ex­plo­sive De­vice (IED) Dis­posal Op­er­a­tor, has been nom­i­nated as Out­stand­ing Air­man of the Year at The Sun’s Mil­i­tary Awards – also known as ‘The Mil­lies’.

He will meet David Cameron at 10 Down­ing Street be­fore go­ing to the cer­e­mony, where guests in­clude Prince Wil­liam and David Beck­ham.

Dur­ing his re­cent de­ploy­ment to Afghanistan, Chf Tech Lowe at­tended nine in­ci­dents over a ten day pe­riod, de­fus­ing 15 IEDS by hand.

RAF Wit­ter­ing spokesman Tony Walsh said: “We are all very proud of him, he de­serves this recog­ni­tion.”

The cer­e­mony will be broad­cast on ITV at 9pm on Wed­nes­day.
