Dou­ble drama on busy Thor­ney by­pass

MO­TORISTS on the A47 faced dis­rup­tion af­ter a lorry fell into a road­side ditch.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened less than an hour af­ter an­other lorry was in­volved in a col­li­sion with a car on the same stretch of dual car­riage­way.

The dou­ble drama took place on thethor­ney by­pass yes­ter­day morn­ing. The first in­ci­dent, in­volv­ing an ar­tic­u­lated lorry and a peo­ple car­rier, took place at 7.55am.

It left the road par­tially blocked with glass strewn across the road.

A spokes­woman for Cam­bridgeshire po­lice said no-one was in­jured in the crash.

The sec­ond in­ci­dent hap­pened on the same stretch of road at 8.45am when a lorry laden with empty boxes came off the road and into a ditch.

The driver man­aged to es­cape the lorry with­out in­jury.

The road re­mained open for a time, be­fore be­ing closed in both di­rec­tions from about 9.50am to 12.20pm while the ve­hi­cle was re­cov­ered.
