Online tour helps young patients at click of a button
HEALTH bosses have unveiled a hitech way to help ease children’s fear of hospitals.
Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals Trust has launched an online virtual tour of children’s services at Peterborough City Hospital.
The tour will enable children and their families to see what the unit is like and help reduce the fear and apprehension that is often felt when coming into hospital.
Erica Crust, ward manager for the hospital’s Jungle assessment unit, said: “The tour will be helpful for children, parents and carers to become familiar with the surroundings and see in advance what the environment is like.
“We are extremely proud to be able to offer such great facilities at the City Hospital.
“This is a very accessible way for families to understand where they are going beforehand and lessen anxieties prior to their arrival.”
The virtual tour incorporates Rainforest outpatients, Amazon ward – which is home to a number of specialist play areas including a sensory room to stimulate children’s senses and a secure outdoor play area for use all-year round – and the Jungle assessment unit.
Each section is accompanied by an audio description of what children and their families might expect if they visit, along with additional photos and on-screen information.
The virtual tour can be seen by visiting the trust’s website www.peterboroughandstamford.nhs.uk and clicking on Our Services, then Children’s Services.
