Recycled bikes are festive gifts
CHILDREN at Peterborough City Council’s Chestnuts Playcentre will be getting early Christmas presents thanks to kind-hearted residents. who supported the annual Recycle a Cycle appeal.
Eight bikes donated by members of the public have been refurbished by On Yer Bike in Lincoln Road, Millfield, as part of the appeal.
It’s the fourth year the playcentre has run the appeal, which encourages residents to donate unused, old and rusty children’s bicycles that could be revamped and given to children after restoration.
Cllr Sheila Scott, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Every person who donated an unused, old bicycle should be feeling very proud of themselves.
“They have made Christmas that extra bit special for 10 children and I would like to thank them for making a difference to the children at a time of year where a present like this will bring lots of joy and fun.”
Paul Dobson, manager of the council’s Chestnuts Playcentre, said: “The children have been extremely excited about Recycle a Cycle and their understanding of recycling and improving the environment where they live has heightened as a result.
Nigel Ladd, owner of On Yer Bike, said: “This is the fourth year running we have worked with Chestnuts Playcentre on the Recycle a Cycle initiative and once again it has been a real pleasure.”
