PUPILS, parents, staff and governors bid a fond farewell to their headteacher of 16 years.

Margaret Sargent took over from David Fisher at Alderman Jacobs Primary School back in January 1996.

Ever since then, Mrs Sargent has been an inspirational headteacher to thousands of pupils at the school, in Drybread Road, Whittlesey.

Retiring this term, Mrs Sargent said she had been overwhelmed by the affection shown by all those involved with the school at a series of leaving events and assemblies held over the past few weeks.

Mrs Sargent said: “Sixteen fantastic years seem to have passed so quickly.

“The school is outstanding due to its staff, governors, parents and most importantly, the children.

“Everyone has a passion to do their best and it has been a delight to experience so many best wishes from the whole school community.

“Even my chair of governors appeared in a tutu and tights at a wonderful farewell assembly the staff prepared for me.
