Take the chance given by judge

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - COMMENT -

In a gesture of compassion a judge has agreed to his early release following the tragic death of his young daughter from a rare heart condition.

Opinion will be divided on this. Some will say a punishment is a punishment.

But the family will have to contend with terrible heartbreak and if having Fife home at Christmas offers them some support then, perhaps, the appeal court was right to show compassion and cut his sentence.

For Fife this is a undoubtedly a difficult time but hopefully it will also be a turning point.

We can all have the deepest sympathy for his and his family’s terrible loss and we wish them some comfort at Christmas time.

But there will be no sympathy if Fife does not take the opportunity given to him by the judge – he must stay away from what he himself called the “wrong crowd” that led him down the path of drug dealing in the first place.

Now he must focus on supporting his family when they need him most... we wish him well with that.
