Phantoms need Bison scalp to complete a set
PHANTOMS will travel to Basingstoke on Boxing Day hoping to take the scalp of the one English Premier League team to have eluded them so far this season.
Chris Allen’s side go into the Christmas period in their best form of the season with three wins from four games and their first four-point weekend in the bag.
And while the first half of the season has been a struggle, the city side have beaten every team in the league except Basingstoke Bison and Allen is desperate to complete the set.
He said: “I think last weekend we really turned a corner with the wins against Telford and Slough and now the challenge is to keep that going over Christmas and into the new year.
“We are close to having a full strength roster for the first time and you are playing.”
Phantoms are fast approaching the halfway point of their season and with just 20 points on the board, they have plenty of work to do if they are to climb the table.
But despite their struggles, Allen remains confident his side has what it takes to challenge for a place in the top five in the new year.
“We need to approach every game like it is a cup final from now on as all the other teams will be doing the same,” he said.
“We have around 30 games left and I think if we can win 15 of them we will be in a very competitive position come the play-offs. We could even do a little better than that and push for a spot in the top five, it is still all down to us.
“And it all starts over the next two weeks. We need to get on a run and build up a little momentum coming into 2012.”
