Crowland in the cup final

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - News -

HERE we have another photograph taken by the late Cyril Foster, a keen photographer from Crowland.

The notes accompanying the photograph state that the Crowland team was appearing in the junior cup final at Peterborough United’s London Road ground in 1952. However, this left us a little confused simply because few of the players looked as if they were out of their teenage years!

Tracy Purdy on email thinks that one of the players may be a family member.

She said: “My son Gavin thinks that the man in the second row, second on the left with no hair and his arms folded, is his late paternal gran- dad, Gilbert Simpson.

“My ex-husband, Gavin’s dad, now lives in Canada and his grandmother has passed away too, so there is no-one who can verify this for us. It would be really bizarre if it was him, as Gavin’s son, Bradley, was in the paper the same day this picture was published, scoring a hat trick for the same team!”

ALL SET FOR THE BIG MATCH: The Crowland team that appeared in the junior cup final.
