Ur­gent plea to back eco-char­ity’s cy­cle ride

NEW Year res­o­lu­tion-mak­ers in Peter­bor­ough are be­ing urged to com­mit to a eco-fit­ness pledge to pedal for the planet.

The plea comes from Friends of the Earth which is stag­ing the Big Green Bike Ride, and which will in­volve cy­clists trav­el­ling from Cam­bridge, just past Peter­bor­ough and up to Gran­tham on May 7.

It is part of a six-day ride that will start in Lon­don on May 6 and fin­ish in Ed­in­burgh on May 11.

The ride, which trav­els through some of the re­gion’s most stun­ning coun­try­side, will be fully mar­shalled with a sup­port team and medic on hand.

The char­ity ride will raise money for Friends of the Earth’s vi­tal en­vi­ron­men­tal cam­paign­ing.

Tracey Pritchard, head of fundrais­ing at Friends of the Earth, said: “The Big Green Bike Ride is the per­fect op­por­tu­nity to re­ally com­mit to get­ting fit in 2012, and raise vi­tal funds for Friends of the Earth’s cam­paigns to keep our planet safe and healthy. She added: “The great thing about this event is that you can choose to sign up for a one-day chal­lenge or put your hat in the ring for the whole 500 miles.

As an added bonus, any­one reg­is­ter­ing for the ride be­fore 31 De­cem­ber will be en­tered into a com­pe­ti­tion to win a week­end stay for six peo­ple in a lux­ury Nat­u­ral Re­treats Lodges.
