Family welcomes Isa on Christmas Day
A PETERBOROUGH family have spoken of their joy after their son became the first to be born in the city on Christmas Day.
Sadat Karaoglan (30) and his wife Melek (29), from Hampton Vale, welcomed their second child into the world, weighing a little under 9lb, at Peterborough City Hospital shortly before 1am on Sunday.
The Turkish-born couple, who have lived in Peterborough for eight years, named the bouncing baby boy Isa, which means Jesus in their native country.
The family had been expecting Isa to arrive on Monday, December 19 but Mrs Karaoglan did not go into labour until 10pm on Christmas Eve.
Mrs Karaoglan said: “It was very exciting. When I gave birth, all the midwives and the doctors were really excited. They gave him a teddy bear and presents and sang for us as well.”
Mr Karaoglan said during the delivery he forgot that Christmas Day was approaching as concern for his wife and his unborn child were at the forefront of his mind.
However, that was until staff began their celebrations following Isa’s arrival.
He said: “I was next to my wife and suddenly everybody was singing for Christmas and bringing us presents.
“Everyone was coming around. You can’t explain the feeling. It was very nice.”
The couple are not Christian but they do celebrate Christmas for their five-year-old son Denis’ sake.
Following Isa’s birth, chief among Mrs Karaoglan’s concerns was to return home to be with Denis on Christmas morning.
Hospital staff helped make her Christmas wish come true and she was home again by 6am, ready for when Denis woke at 8am.
She said: “I told them I wanted to be with Denis on Christmas morn- ing. They were rushing so that I got home.
“He came straight to the baby. He looked at him and was really pleased.”
The couple feel that having a child born on Christmas Day only adds to the blessing.
Mr Karaoglan said: “It makes it so special.”
Mrs Karaoglan said: “It’s really exciting.
“He’s special to us anyway, but with this birthday he’s even more special to us.”
