Christmas cancelled for devastated mum
A DEVASTATED mum has made an emotional plea for information about her missing son after admitting the family “didn’t have a Christmas” without him.
Sandra Gutteridge (60), of Newlands Road, Whittlesey made the appeal after seeing CCTV footage of her son Paul Smith (37) filmed when he was in a Peterborough newsagents on Thursday evening.
The latest sighting of him was in the Costcutters Store, in Belsize Avenue, Woodston, and Mrs Gutteridge has appealed for Paul to get in touch.
She said: “Christmas did not happen for us this year.
“We were out searching for him on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We still have a pile of his presents waiting for him to come home and open.
“I have been waiting by the phone for him to get in touch.
“It is so out of character for him to do something like this. I want to tell him to get in touch with us or his brother in Peterborough, and we will go and pick him up.
“He left his phone, wallet and laptop in his flat in Wellingborough, so we think he must be running out of money.
“It is a relief to know he was still alive on Thursday but he is vulnerable, and the CCTV shows he was crying, so he is very distressed.”
Manager of the Costcutters store, Shaheen Khalid, who served Paul in the shop, said: “He used to be a regular customer here, so I talked to him.
“He said he was upset and had lost his job at Ikea earlier in the year.
“He came in the shop at 4.16pm and bought cigarettes, beer, crisps and chewing gum.
“He was wearing a black jacket, jeans and trainers and had a beard. “I didn’t know he was missing until I saw it in the Evening Telegraph.”
Mr Smith’s car was last seen parked outside his home address in Brickhill Mews, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, where he moved to this year, on Christmas Eve.
He is white, approximately 5ft 10ins tall, with blue-grey eyes and short dark brown receding hair. He drives a silver Citroen C4, registra- tion number CV06 DJE.
Anyone who thinks they may have seen Paul, or his car, is being urged to call Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222 or 101.
