Bette bike plans given go-ahead
PLANS to improve cycling facilities have been given the green-light in Spalding.
Funding of £8,320 has been allocated out of Springfields ‘ Section 106’ planning money – earmarked for town centre improvements – to pay for the improvements which were requested by Pedals, Spalding’s Cycle Action Group.
Pedals had asked for more cycle parking in the town centre and more signage on the route between the town centre and the Springfields Outlet Shopping and Festival Gardens development.
The group looked at existing cycle parking spaces and proposed replacement racks and an extra 26 spaces in the town.
In partnership with Lincolnshire County Council Highways it estimated it would cost £6,800 to replace and provide new racks while improved signing was estimated at £1,520.
South Holland District Council (SHDC) gave the scheme the goahead and it is expected to be completed within three months.
Councillor Howard Johnson, SHDC portfolio holder for development, said: “I welcome these improvements which will be of great benefit to cyclists in South Holland.”
