Teenager is one of top undiscovered talents
A TEENAGE student from Peterborough has been chosen as one of the top undiscovered guitarists in the world.
Chris Robinson (17) was given the accolade by acclaimed international music producer and photographer Robert Knight who, in partnership with leading guitar manufacturer Fender, flew around the world looking for new talent.
Mr Knight is creating a platform to promote young artists and is currently searching the globe to find 23 of the best as yet undiscovered guitarists.
He came across Chris by viewing clips that the Peterborough Regional College student had uploaded on to the website Youtube.
After flying to the UK to meet Chris, he filmed footage of the youngster playing, which will soon be uploaded to a new website and will hopefully act as a springboard for the youngster’s musical career.
Chris said: “I was incredibly proud and excited when I heard from Robert Knight.
“He has worked with and captured incredible images of so many of my idols.
“Robert flew in from Vegas earlier this year to meet me at the John Henry’s Studios in London.
“He interviewed me and filmed lots of footage of me playing; Robert is launching this footage of me along with the other chosen guitarists, to a new site called www.brotherhoodoftheguitar.com.
“I would like to thank Robert Knight, Guitar Centre and Fender for helping me, it’s a fantastic platform for my career.”
Chris has had an interest in music from a very young age and in particular guitars.
His idols include Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa and Eric Clapton to name just a few.
His passion for playing blues and rock and roll on the guitar was cemented when he was 11 years old and he saw his first live footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
While other children his age were out playing sports or other games, Chris would be found practising for hours on end.
Chris is studying on the BTEC National in Music at Peterborough Regional College, a practical two-year qualification popular among young musicians.
He aims to head off to university afterwards while pursuing his career as a professional guitarist.
