Pair braced for trip in veteran car
A FATHER and son duo from Sawtry are preparing to drive more than 2,000 miles in their £200 car to raise funds for Wood Green, The Animals Charity.
Mick White (52) and Joe (21) of Westerman Close, will set off for The Crumball Rally on May 9 which will see them drive via London, through France, Switzerland and Italy in their 1994 Ford Probe.
The pair bought the car in May last year for just over £200 even though it had not been roadworthy since 2009.
But using their motoring knowledge, elbow grease and help from local engineering mechanic Richard Johnson, the vehicle is up and running and ready to take on the challenge.
Mick said: “For the past six years we have entered the BMF Moped Enduro but this year we decided to take on something a little more challenging. The Crumball Rally is only open to cars over 15-years-old which cost around £200.
“We got our Staffordshire Bull Terrier Charlie from Wood Green three years ago. He is a wonderful dog who we wouldn’t be without so we wanted to raise money to help all the other animals in their care.”
Wood Green Community Fundraiser Caroline Willis added: “We are delighted Mick and Joe have chosen to raise funds for Wood Green.
“We do not receive any government or lottery funding and therefore rely solely on kind-hearted members of the public like Mick and Joe to raise money and support the animals in our care.”
The pair have already raised more than £500 and hope to increase this during the rally.
