Burst water main

-

ENGINEERS from Anglian Water worked into the night repairing a burst water main in Peterborough.

The burst main in Chapel Street, Stanground, Peterborough had been brought to the attention of the water firm on Monday evening.

However, Anglian Water has said it had decided to carry the repair work to the main last night because it did not want to interrupt the water supply to nearby Stanground St John’s Church of England Primary School during the course of the day.

Around 120 properties in the area were left without water while the works were carried out on the burst water main.

Antony Innes, a spokesman from Anglian Water, said: “We are sorry for any disruption which was caused to customers while we repaired this burst main. “The decision to delay repairing this pipe was taken to ensure that supplies to the school are not interrupted. “We recognise that at this time of drought it is important that we work quickly to repair any leaks and minimise disruption to our customers. “We did act to minimise the amount of water which is leaking.

“We have then taken the decision to wait until later in the evening before completely shutting off supplies to the immediate area so that the pipe can be fully fixed.”
