Mayor to spend a day working on children’s ward
YOUNGSTERS in Peterborough hospital will be cared for by a leading dignitary after she put her services up for auction.
The Mayor of Peterborough Councillor Paula Thacker is to spend a day working on Peterborough City Hospital’s Amazon ward and hopes to bring a bit more cheer to the children being cared for on the ward.
She will join the nurses and doctors on the ward tomorrow.
A hospital spokeswoman said: “Amazon Ward staff bid for the Mayor’s services at an auction held by Family Voice Peterborough, which is a charity that helps carers of young people with disabilities or additional needs.
“As the winning bidders, the ward will have the help of the mayor for a 9am to 5pm shift.
This visit will be one of the last public engagements the Mayor will undertake as her term is due to come to an end on May 23.
Jayne Rootham, ward sister, said: “Having the Mayor help on the children’s ward will be a great experience for the children, families and staff in the department.
She said: “We hope the day will enable the Mayor to gain some invaluable experiences.
She added: “The Mayor will take part in routine ward duties, a visit to theatre with a child, messy play and spending time on the unit with the children and families.”
