Mayor to spend a day work­ing on chil­dren’s ward

YOUNG­STERS in Peter­bor­ough hospi­tal will be cared for by a lead­ing dig­ni­tary af­ter she put her ser­vices up for auc­tion.

The Mayor of Peter­bor­ough Coun­cil­lor Paula Thacker is to spend a day work­ing on Peter­bor­ough City Hospi­tal’s Ama­zon ward and hopes to bring a bit more cheer to the chil­dren be­ing cared for on the ward.

She will join the nurses and doc­tors on the ward to­mor­row.

A hospi­tal spokes­woman said: “Ama­zon Ward staff bid for the Mayor’s ser­vices at an auc­tion held by Fam­ily Voice Peter­bor­ough, which is a char­ity that helps car­ers of young peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties or ad­di­tional needs.

“As the win­ning bid­ders, the ward will have the help of the mayor for a 9am to 5pm shift.

This visit will be one of the last public en­gage­ments the Mayor will un­der­take as her term is due to come to an end on May 23.

Jayne Rootham, ward sis­ter, said: “Hav­ing the Mayor help on the chil­dren’s ward will be a great ex­pe­ri­ence for the chil­dren, fam­i­lies and staff in the depart­ment.

She said: “We hope the day will en­able the Mayor to gain some in­valu­able ex­pe­ri­ences.

She added: “The Mayor will take part in rou­tine ward du­ties, a visit to theatre with a child, messy play and spend­ing time on the unit with the chil­dren and fam­i­lies.”
