Pensioner modifies his mobility scooter
A PENSIONER often seen driving around Peterborough in his mobility scooter has given it a new lease of life with a total makeover.
William Markwick (72), from Stowe Hill Road, Paston, has a penchant for dressing up his scooters and has put a handmade aluminium canopy with polycarbonate shatter-proof windows around his new one.
He then painted it blue and attached eye-catching images of eagles and lions to make his scooter the most eyecatching in Peterborough.
Mr Markwick said: “I finished it last week and when I took it into town everyone absolutely loved it.
“I have been getting lots of positive comments and people have been smiling and putting their thumbs up.
“It’s not something you see very often in Peterborough city centre and I think people like seeing it.”
This is the latest in a range of upgrades Mr Markwick has given his scooter - but he has decided not to take off the “Del Boy” back numberplate.
He added: “The old canopy had paintings of landscapes. It also had a bigger eagle on it, but now there is a smaller eagle and lions as well. I hope it will make people smile.”
