Easy win for Nene Valley veteran Herbert in the Cambridge Parkrun
ENGLAND veteran international John Herbert of Nene Valley Harriers won the Cambridge Parkrun 5k by more than a minute. HUNTS Athletic Club veteran Martin Rowe smashed his personal best by 23 minutes at the Milton Keynes Marathon, running 2.59.57.
Thorney Running Club’s Eamonn Dorling had hoped to break three hours but his time of 3.09.48 still places him 12th on the UK Over 55 rankings and he will now target the Masters Marathon intenby South Wales in six weeks.
He said. “I think that even beat the snowstorm at the Bungay Marathon a few years ago as the worst conditions I have run a full marathon in.”
Bournetown Harrier Rich Lomas-brown completed his ninth marathon in 3.19.30. BRJ’S Simon Lumley was due to make his debut over 26.2 miles in the Shakespeare Marathon but in view of the lashing rain and strong winds, the organisers cancelled it just two minutes before the race was due to get under way.
They still held the half-marathon where Lumley finished 425th in 1.52.14.
Two track and field events also fell victim to the weather - the Easternyoung Athletes League at the Embankment Track and the Lincs League at Grantham.
STU Barfoot of Eye Runners completed thethree Peaks Fell Race - which consists of 37.5km with more than 1600m of ascent - in 5.07.42.
members of BRJ tackled the Hamburg Marathon in Germany, Karltaylor finishing 5,448th in 4.00.35 with Sarah Hall one position behind in the same time.
JEFF Lucas of Werrington Joggers finished fourth in the Tulip 10k, two places behind second-claim Nene Valley Harrier Rob Prady.
IAN Marshall of Hunts Athletic Club finished 412th in the Greater Manchester Marathon in 3.25.38.
