Nine votes the key de­spite low turnout

THERE was a low turnout in Peter­bor­ough yes­ter­day, with an av­er­age of just 30.8 per cent of el­i­gi­ble vot­ers mark­ing their bal­lots. But ev­ery vote counted for Labour’s John Knowles, who beat Tory David Day in Pas­ton by just nine votes. He said: “If we had not knocked on doors right to the end we would not have got those nine votes.”
