Ceiling leak moves vote counters

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Councilelections -

BALLOTS intown Hall had to stop being received in the Mayor’s Parlour after a leak appeared in the lavish room. Volunteers were receiving and sorting ballot boxes in the parlour, before they were taken to the Council Chamber, Forli Room and the Reception Room for counting after the leak was spotted. None of the ballots were affected by the leak, which was noticed when one of the counters was dripped on at 11pm. Water was dripping from a visible crack at the top of the wall and expensive portraits of past mayors had to be quickly taken down. The structural damage was thought to have been done by the weather. Mayor Paulathacker said: “It has come up tonight, there wasn’t a problem until today. “One of the counters noticed it and then when we looked up there was a crack in the wall. “It couldn’t have happened at a worse time, but the count has not been affected. “We have got somebody up on the roof and hopefully it will be fixed tonight.”
