STAFF at a Fletton fish and chip shop are celebrating after being handed a prestigious award – for the quality of their frying oil.
Fletton Fish and Chips, in High Street, Fletton is the first fish and chip shop in Cambridgeshire to have been awarded the Frymax Gold Standard Award for Excellence in Oil Management.
The award was presented by Frymax, a leading all-vegetable brand of frying oil for the fish and chip trade, to fryers who demonstrate that they are taking care to keep their cooking oil in top condition to maintain the quality taste of the food.
The award is based on 18 criteria, the most important being an objective scientific measurement of the cleanliness of the oil. The shops must also demonstrate that they dispose of their used oil in an environmentally friendly way.
Shop manager Yassar Mohammed said: “We are delighted to have been awarded the Gold Standard.
“We strive for excellence in every part of our business.
“The oil affects the quality of every item we cook in the shop so it’s very important to have good, clean oil to enhance the quality of the food we serve to our customers.”
Cyril Solomons, a spokesman for Frymax, added: “The shop is very selective with its major ingredients.
“The fish is of the highest quality and sourced from well managed, sustainable fishing grounds.
“The potatoes are purchased from a leading specialist supplier.
“All meals are cooked to order to ensure that customers receive a fresh, hot and tasty meal.”
Fletton Fish and Chips was also recently awarded a Five Star Rating Health and Hygiene Award by Peterborough City Council.
