BMX bike champion rides into city school
SPORTY pupils at Ormiston Bushfield Academy were visited by a champion BMX bike rider.
Forty students aged from 11 to 16 at the academy took part in a BMX cycle workshop led by Mike Mullen, a former world amateur champion, BMX World Masters champion and a Sky Sports – Living for Sport mentor.
Most of the students who took part are sports leaders at the academy who each have a major responsibility for helping to organise and support sporting activities within the school in Orton Goldhay.
Mike Mullen encouraged the students to get involved in a range of BMX activities and to test their cycle skills.
Leanne Sansby, a PE teacher at the school, said: “Mike was absolutely brilliant in the way he enthused and motivated our students.
“Our youngsters gained much from the activities, including learning new skills, having their confidence boosted and enhancing their ability to be effective while supporting team members.
The smiles and shouts of joy throughout the event made it clear our students had a great time.”
