GABY Zakuani’s spectacular Posh form could earn him an improved London Road contract.

The centre-half won four prestigious player-of-the-year polls at the end of the 2011-12 Championship campaign despite regular pre-match painkilling injections.

Zakuani believes he is now playing at his peak meaning Posh will get the best days of his career.

“I’m very settled here,” Zakuani admitted. “I think I’m playing at my level. I’m respected and well-regarded at the club.

“I’ve had the big money move in the past so I’m happy to stay here. The gaffer and the chairman have said they will talk about another contract, but not before we go to Portugal for preseason training.

“I think I’m at my peak now. I’d be very happy if I maintain the form I showed this season.

“As a team we were happy with what we achieve, but we expect to do even better next season.”

Zakuani has two years remaining on his current Posh contract. Posh signed him for a reported £300,000 from Fulham in September 2008 - Fulham had paid Leyton Orient £1 million for him two years earlier.

AT HIS PEAK: Gaby Zakuani.
