A DRIVE-IN cinema event planned for Peterborough’s Ferry Meadows Country Park has been cancelled due to the wet weather.

The Movie on the Meadows event, planned for this weekend, has fallen foul of the wettest April on record.

Film-lovers in Peterborough had been hoping to see Back To The Fu- ture screened tonight and Mamma Mia! tomorrow night at the Orton Waterville site.

However, organisers Nene Park Trust has said due to the effect of “unprecedented” levels of rainfall on the site’s ground conditions it is “impossible” to hold the event.

Susan Evans, visitor services man- ager at Nene Park Trust, said: “It is with great regret that we have had to cancel this exciting new event, however our priority is always the protection of the park landscape and the safety of our visitors and staff – and with the ground conditions as we have never seen them before at this time of year we were not happy we could guarantee either.”

Ticket holders are entitled to a full refund and can obtain this at the Visitor Centre at Ferry Meadows during the month of May with their ticket.

The visitor centre is open weekdays, from 11am to 4pm and weekends 10am to 5pm.
