Jail staff get pedal power

JAIL staff were hop­ing to pedal away from prison to raise cash in mem­ory of a col­league.

A team of 12 prison of­fi­cers and other staff took part in a 24 hour cy­cling marathon at Ser­pen­tine Green Shop­ping Cen­tre, Hamp­ton, Peter­bor­ough.

The team, lead by Gary Clarke, deputy head at HMP Peter­bor­ough Women’s prison, started at 2pm on Fri­day.

They rode through the night be­fore fin­ish­ing at 2pm on Satur­day, trav­el­ling more than 2,000 miles dur­ing their marathon ride.

The cy­clists were hop­ing to raise more than £3,000 for Sue Ry­der’s Thorpe Hall Hospice in trib­ute to their for­mer col­league, Louise Cooper, who re­cently died at the cen­tre.
