Mayor’s ball axed

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Uk&world Update -

THE Mayor of Peterborough has pulled the plug on her charity-aiding spring dance just days before the event was due to take place.

Councillor Paula Thacker says that personal reasons have forced her to request that the dance scheduled to take place on Saturday be cancelled.

She has promised that anyone who bought tickets for the event at Peterborough Town Hall, to raise money for her two chosen charities, would receive a full refund.

She said: “The decision to cancel was mine and it was made for personal reasons. I am a little disappointed.”

Cllr Thacker would not say what the personal reasons were.

She added: “I have telephoned everyone who bought tickets to tell them it has been cancelled. If they have not had a refund it will arrive in the next day or two.”

Cllr Thacker, whose term of office runs out on May 23, said: “There is still my duck race and two more lunches to attend before the end of my term as mayor.”
