Fifty years of ath­let­ics track to be marked to­mor­row

THE 50th an­niver­sary of a Peter­bor­ough ath­let­ics track will be marked with an Olympic-themed cel­e­bra­tion to­mor­row.

Vi­vac­ity, Peter­bor­ough City Coun­cil and Ful­bridge Pri­mary School will join forces to cel­e­brate the birth­day of the Em­bank­ment Ath- let­ics Track.

Eighty stu­dents will take part in a com­pe­ti­tion, cul­mi­nat­ing in a re­lay race cel­e­brat­ing the dif­fer­ent na­tion­al­i­ties.

Five Olympic ban­ners de­signed be the stu­dents will be on dis­play on the day as part of their stud­ies around the Olympics.

Vi­vac­ity has said the event would not be pos­si­ble with­out the help of the coun­cil and Cllr Charles Swift, who at­tended the orig­i­nal open­ing cer­e­mony in 1962.

Nicky Mc­cready, sports de­vel­op­ment man­ager for Vi­vac­ity, said: “We’re de­lighted to be able to com­mem­o­rate 50 years of this great city cen­tre fa­cil­ity with such a fan­tas­tic event, which not only cel­e­brates the spirit of the track in this year of the Olympics, but also cap­tures how im­por­tant it is to the lo­cal com­mu­ni­ties.”
