Volunteers needed to help Mayor
A CALL for volunteers has gone out to help support the charities chosen by the Mayor of Peterborough.
Work is under way to create a team of volunteers to help the Mayor’s Office at Peterborough City Council put on an array of social functions throughout the civic year.
The fundraising team will work with volunteers from the chosen charities to support a variety of events from the prestigious Mayor’s Ball and Last Night of the Proms, to coffee mornings and musical evenings.
The council’s Mayor’s Officer, Jackie Holmes, said: “This is a great opportunity to develop new skills, gain experience and enjoy working as part of a team. We are keen to recruit enthusiastic, hardworking volunteers with a can-do attitude.
“We need people who have a few hours to spare for daytime, evening, and weekend events. In return volunteers will have the opportunity to work on an array of charity events and gain invaluable experience in the charity sector.”
Each year the Mayor of Peter- borough selects at least one charity to support, for which funds are raised throughout the year.
Mrs Holmes said: “Fundraising events are traditionally supported by volunteers attached to the chosen charity, but extra help is always needed.”
The re-election of the Mayor of Peterborough will take place at the annual council meeting on May 23 when Anyone who is keen to help should drop in to the Visitor Information Centre, Bridge Street, Peterborough or the Mayor’s Office at the Town Hall or call 01733 452319.
