Groups achieve large losses

TWO lo­cal weight­loss groups are cel­e­brat­ing af­ter their mem­bers achieved im­pres­sive slim­ming suc­cesses.

In to­tal, around 90 mem­bers of the Stan­ground and Wood­ston branches of Weight Watch­ers have lost a to­tal of 140 stones and 10 lbs since early Jan­uary.

Two mem­bers have ex­pe­ri­enced their own im­pres­sive losses with Stan­ground mem­ber Heidi Long­foot drop­ping 56 lbs and Wood­ston mem­ber Rachel Ar­ling los­ing 115 lbs.

The losses have de­lighted Jean Fuller who man­ages both the groups on a weekly ba­sis.

Ms Fuller said: “Last week I calcu- lated the com­bined to­tal of mem­bers weight losses at the two groups.

“I was amazed when it came to 140 stones and 10 lbs, I think that’s the equiv­a­lent of two po­lar bears.

“I feel in­cred­i­bly proud of the group mem­bers be­cause they have shown real de­ter­mi­na­tion to reach their goals.

“We have a say­ing at the groups that if you don’t show de­sire, dis­ci­pline and de­ter­mi­na­tion then you’ll ex­pe­ri­ence dis­as­ter.

“What the groups, and Heidi and Rachel in par­tic­u­lar, have achieved takes a lot of hard work. And it’s not just com­ing to the meet­ings, it’s do­ing a lit­tle bit ex­tra as well.

“Heidi goes on walks and does Zumba while Rachel is a bit of a gym bunny.”

Ms Fuller said there are many ben­e­fits to achiev­ing weight-loss. She said: “I en­joy see­ing peo­ple ex­pe­ri­ence a boost in con­fi­dence, that’s re­ally sat­is­fy­ing.

“Both the grounds have a great ca­ma­raderie and ev­ery­one sup­ports each other.

“We al­ways wel­come new mem­bers.”
