Clipston gutted to be sacked as Yaxley boss
NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Gary Clipston was left ‘gutted and shellshocked’ after being sacked as manager ofyaxley last night.
Clipston’s five-and-a-half year reign in the Cuckoos hotseat was ended only weeks after he had overseen another successful fight against relegation from the United Counties League Premier Division.
And he departed from In2itive Park adamant that he never had the opportunity to do the job he really wanted for the club.
Clipston said: “I love the club and I put in every ounce of effort possible on and off the pitch. I’m proud of what I achieved and very disappointed by the decision to sack me.
“I thought the fact we picked up some very good results against decent teams to secure our safety again last season would have been enough to earn me another season, but it obviously wasn’t to be.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had the tools needed to compete in the top half of the table. I’ve always had to work to a bottom-six budget and I feel let down to not be able to continue the job now the club is going into a time where it may have a bigger budget.”
Clipston spent four years as number two to his managerial predecessor Jim Watson before getting the top job in 2007. He also worked hard to raise funds for the club.
