Shoppers on alert after purse thefts
SHOPPERS in Stamford have been asked to be on their guard after a spate of purse thefts in the town.
It follows an incident between 11.30am and 12.10pm on Saturday, May 5, when a woman had a purse stolen from her handbag next to Lloyds TSB in High Street, with another woman targeted just a few hours later in the same area.
A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “A number of possible suspects were identified this week in the town. There was insufficient evidence to make an arrest but they were escorted from the town centre and observed until they left the area.”
Women have been told to keep their handbags fastened or zipped and ideally worn resting on their fronts where they are visible.
They believe the offenders will more often than not be a woman, working as part of a gang. Anyone with information should call police on 101. ANIMAL-LOVING residents can pick a puurfect new pet at a rehoming event tomorrow.
The Peterborough branch of Cats Protection will hold the event at St B’s Hall, Main Street, Yaxley from 11am to 12.30pm.
Pam Mcnicol, branch coordinator, said the event was ideal for families looking for a new companion.
She said: “We have cats of all shapes and sizes looking for their forever homes, so if you are looking to adopt, please come along and find out if we have the right cat for you.
“Our waiting list continues to grow, and before we are able to take more cats in we must find loving homes for those in our care at the moment.”
All adult cats are neutered, fleaed, wormed, microchipped and vaccinated. The charity charges £55 for each adopted cat.
