Success is plain sailing

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your -

At a recent charter dinner, Peterborough Ortons Rotary Club awarded Mac Warwick, one of their members, a highly prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship for his outstanding work with disabled sailors.

Sailability in Peterborough has now entered its seventh season. Up and running again they are looking forward to another busy and successful summer sailing at Ferry Meadows. If you have not seen this amazing project in action before and would like to experience the freedom of sailing they are to be found at the Lakeside Leisure Sailing Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 5pm. They have all the kit you will need, they just need you. Why not go along and have a go, you will have a great time and I am sure you will want to come back again and again. If you have sailing experience, or just want to help others sail, they are also looking for new helpers to join their band of over 40 dedicated volunteers.

It is very clear why Mac was singled out for this special recognition. He was part of the original Rotary team put together in 2005 which helped to plan the set-up of Sailability within Peterborough. He is now a trustee of Peterbrough Sailability, the charity, and was treasurer for five years. Working as a volunteer at Ferry Meadows he is an assistant instructor and “buddie” and sails every Tuesday and Thursday within the April to October sailing season. Addition- ally he is a member of a committee which decides the fine detail of operations whilst the trustees decide actual policy and the way ahead. Mac has always been a director of Peterborough Sailability the Company.

On receiving his award Mac said “I suppose I am well involved with the whole operation but I love it and I get a great deal of satisfaction from working with our disabled friends and clients. I believe this is one of the most successful and worthwhile Rotary service projects within Peterborough and I am really pleased that I joined that team back in 2005”.

Mac Warwick receives his award from Linda May.
