Hunts’ Eastern Counties programme didn’t get off to the best of starts at Norwich last weekend, losing on five of the six rinks, although all bar the match involving the executive rink were closely run affairs and could have gone either way.

WHITTLESEY Manor have become the latest club to withdraw a team from the Peterborough League.

Having hoped to re-introduce a third midweek team this season, the club had to make an eleventh hour decision to withdraw the C team because of team-raising problems.

It follows the previous week’s decision by Parkway to withdraw teams from the Midweek League and the Club 60 League.

The wettest start to a bowls season in living memory has resulted in a number of league matches being postponed, and with some greens having had spells out of action, players competing in county competitions have had to hire rinks from neighbouring clubs.

NORTHANTS Bowling Federation are on the look-out for junior bowlers to add to the under 25 mixed squad for this season’s inter-county matches against Norfolk (Sunday, June 10 at Whittlesey Manor); Hunts (Sunday, June 17, at Sawtry) and Suffolk (Sunday, July 1 at Whittlesey Manor).

Interested players should contact team manager Steve Roden on 01406 331002.
