NAT IS READY TO RUMBLE
NEW Posh signing Nathaniel Knight-percival will relish the challenge of the Championship.
The club’s first summer capture signed a two-year contract at London Road yesterday after leaving Blue Square Premier Division side Wrexham on a free transfer.
Knight-percival has over 200 career first-team appearances to his name, but he has not yet played a single game in the Football League.
The 25 year-old was a left-winger for Histon for five seasons before he was converted to a centre-back role after signing for Wrexham in the summer of 2010.
His performances as a rookie defender impressed Posh manager Darren Ferguson so much he ef- fectively signed Knight-percival in January.
“I signed a pre-contract deal in January after meeting Darren,” Knight-percival stated.
“He didn’t say a great deal to me, but the fact that wanted to take me into the Championship was a real boost to my confidence.
“It’s a massive step-up for me, but it’s one I feel ready to take. Peterborough have a habit of finding players in the lower divisions who can perform much higher and hopefully I will be one of those.
“I’m delighted to be here and I am looking forward to proving myself in the Championship. There are some big teams and some great places to visit, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.
“It will be a test for me of course, but I will knuckle down in the summer and try my hardest to get into the first team as soon as I can.
“I was a winger or wide midfielder for five or six years but Dean Saunders and Brian Carey at Wrexham saw something in me and switched to centre-back.
“I played a few games last summer there and then started the league season at the back and to be honest I can’t believe how well it went for me.
“I barely missed a game last season and the only disappointment was not going up even though we finished on 98 points.
“I like to think I’m good in the air, that I can read the game and I’m not slow.
“I’m definitely excited to be here, Dean Keates was my team-mate at Wrexham and he told me he had one of the best periods of his career at London Road.”
Knight-percival is the first of numerous close season signings Posh are expected to make ahead of their July training camp in Portugal.
Posh are keeping their transfer cards close to their chest though. The club have not commented on reports that they have bid for freescoring Fleetwood striker Jamie Vardy, scorer of 31 goals in 34 starts for the Blue Square Premier Division champions last season.
