Firm floors rivals at recycling awards event
A WHITTLESEY-BASED flooring contractor has won the Recofloor Contractor of the Year 2012 award for its efforts of recycling flooring.
Alan Parker Flooring Ltd beat other businesses from across the country by reducing the amount of waste vinyl flooring which goes to landfill. In 2011, it recycled 7.5 tonnes.
In addition, the company also beat larger firms to the Most Improvementyear on Year award, and it is also a Gold Award firm, which is the highest standard on the Recofloor vinyl flooring take-back scheme.
Alan Parker Flooring recycles all its cardboard, metal waste, paper and as much of the flooring waste as possible.
Since becoming involved with Recofloor when it started in 2009, the company has noticed a significant decrease in its waste sent to landfill.
Managing director Alan Parker said: “We take waste very seriously, and recycle as much as we can.
“I am keen to see other similar schemes for other flooring products being introduced soon. The Recofloor scheme has been easy to use and I hope to see other firms get involved.”
Accountant Rebecca Pridham, who accepted the award from Richard Catt, CEO of the Contract Flooring Association, on behalf of the company, said: “It is wonderful to see that a small family business can achieve high environmental standards.”
