Surveyors report rise in build activity

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Your -

LEVELS of activity in the construction sector edged upwards in the first three months of the year, according to the latest RICS Construction Market Survey.

Four per cent more chartered surveyors across the region reported rises rather than falls in workloads, which is notably better than the negative reading seen towards the end of 2011.

More significantly, predictions for future construction activity saw a marked upshift in the first quarter of the year. Some 22 per cent more respondents expect workloads to rise over the next 12 months, the best reading since the third quarter of 2009. This is also being reflected in a modest improvement in expectations for employment in the sector, though profit margins should remain under pressure.
