Ryhall dedicate title success to former player Hewing
RYHALL United have claimed a poignant Peterborough League championship success.
The Lincolnshire village side lifted the Divisiontwo crown after securing the point required from their final match of the season at Eye Sports & Social Reserves.
They drew 1-1 which was enough to ensure they hopped above long-time leaders Castor & Ailsworth.
Manager James Sheehan, who reformed the club two years ago with secretary Leon Fedasch, was quick to dedicate the title success to former player Jonny Hewing, who died in March.
Sheehan said: “Jonny played for us in both seasons since we relaunched the senior side and his death rocked the club.
“We were determined to win the title for him and we’re delighted to have done it.
“The whole club is thriving at the moment. Our reserves won promotion from Division Five and our ‘A’ team are coming into the Peterborough League next season.”
Ryhall certainly had to work hard for their final point at Eye. Top goalscorer Ricky Pozella (a man who has hit 34 goals this season) slammed a penalty against the bar before Ryhall fell behind from the spot.
But an own goal pulled them level and some terrific saves from goalkeeper John Feetham ensured the celebrations could begin.
