Lampier bidding for Tour Series success tonight
CYCLING: Eye professional Steve Lampier looks to impress in the Halfords Tour Series again when the popular event gets under way in Kirkcaldy, Fife tonight.
Lampier (below) won the sprints title in last year’stour but had not expected to compete in enough races this year to challenge for that honour.
But a change of plans means he will now line up in Scotland tonight and then Durham on Thursday and by the time the popular series arrives in Peterborough on May 29 - the sixth race of thetour - he hopes to be flying.
He said: “I was due to ride the An Post Ras in Ireland but instead I’m now staying here and concentrating on criterium races such as the Tour Series and the Hillingdon International GP, which is a high quality race is of a similar level to thetour Series but over 100k.
“My form is good and since learning three weeks ago that I wasn’t doing the ‘Ras’ I have been putting myself through a punishing ‘crit’ training regime with lots of sprints and over-geared threshold work.
“I’m really keen to do well in thetour Series again so hopefully I’ll get off to a good start tonight.”
