Photograph has family connections

The Peterborough Evening Telegraph - - Uk & world Update -

ALAN Green handed me a photograph of a trophy-winning Deeping Town Athletic Football Team, from 1947/48.

We asked if anyone knew the identity of the players and Joy Durham of Orton Malborne stepped in to help as two of them were her family members.

Joy said: “My father Gordon Kingston is the goalkeeper (back row, centre) and has a horseshoe round his neck that his sister Maureen made as a lucky charm which he wore for the picture.

“It was made from cardboard with knitting wool wrapped around it.

“My grandfather Arther Kingston (Dad’s Dad) is on the back row to the left, he was the manager. “Dad remembers a few names: “Back row – from left: Arther Kingston (manager), man in cap was trainer (no name), Percy Ireson, Gordon Kingston, Corky Woodward, no name, no name.

“Middle row: Tamos Jibb, no name, Larry Hodgekinson. “Front row: Can’t recall any names. “This picture was taken at the home ground and was behind the then-co-op.

“My father is now 85 years old and he and mum are about to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary.”
