Greece will have new election
GREECE will face another general election, socialist leader Evangelos Venizelos said after talks to agree a new government produced no deal. He said: “Unfortunately, the country is heading again toward elections.” Mr Venizelos had met other party leaders convened by the country’s president in a last-ditch attempt to broker a deal. The Athens Stock Exchange plunged on the news, diving 4.86 per cent minutes after the announcement before recovering slightly. The May 6 election left no party with enough votes for a majority in parliament and repeated efforts over nine days to cobble together a coalition government proved fruitless.
