School re­warded for poppy ap­peal fund-raiser

YAX­LEY In­fants School pupils have been re­warded for a great fund-rais­ing cam­paign for the vil­lage’s Poppy Ap­peal.

The 173 pupils raised more than any other school in the area, help­ing to get £90.59 to help push the full ap­peal to a stag­ger­ing £16,002.29.

They were re­warded for their ef­forts by be­ing pre­sented with a tro­phy by Yax­ley Royal Bri­tish Le­gion Poppy Ap­peal co-or­di­na­tor John Kem­mery and fel­low le­gion mem­bers John As­cott, Tom Cochrane and Brian Gold­ing dur­ing a school assem­bly.

Mr Kem­mery said: “We were de­lighted to go into the school af­ter their great fund-rais­ing ap­peal.

“They only have 173 chil­dren at the school, to have raised over £90 is a great achieve­ment. It’s good to see young peo­ple get be­hind the ap­peal - they are help­ing us keep it go­ing stronger than ever.”

Act­ing head­teacher Donna Ed­son said: “The chil­dren en­joy tak­ing part ev­ery year. The Poppy Ap­peal is close to ev­ery­one’s hearts.”
