CONCERNS over the heating and hot water systems have forced Stanground St John’s School to close today.

The precautionary measure was taken after a plumbing problem was discovered at the primary school yesterday, but the specific nature of the problem has not been revealed.

Classes were unaffected yesterday and a contractor will work to fix the problem today at the school in Chapel Street.

Thankfully, the school’s Year 6 SATS were all completed last week and will not be affected by the closure.

A spokeswoman for Peterborough City Council said: “It is a precautionary measure and there were no leaks.

“But there was a problem with heating and hot water system.

“The children went home as usual on Thursday, but after school clubs were cancelled.

“The school have a contractor coming today to fix the problem, and the school are fairly confident it will open as usual on Monday.”

Parents can keep up to date by looking at the school’s website for announcements over the weekend and they will be contacted by the school’s internal email system, known as “parent mail” if it closed on Monday.

Nobody at the school was available to comment yesterday.

closed today: Stanground St John’s Primary School is closed for the day because of a concern with the heating and hot water systems.
